OK, so I really need to get my hair done. I'm talking cut, styled...the works. Been growing my hair out and it's getting really long and I just want to get it shorter, more trendy, and hassle free.
Anyone know of a great hairstylist or hair salon? I'm willing to pay a little more....but they have to be really good. I have been looking for a hair stylist but to no avail I am still with out one. Thanks.

Check out mine and another user's review of Jet Rhys. You can also go to
www.jetrhys.com I get my hair done there and love it.

This Jeyrhys is intriguing me.
How are they on mens "longish" style hair?
I am dire need of a cut and style, give me a little balance.
Help would be greatly appreciated!

Vanessa, I'd recommend Lorie at Hair Nouveaux in La Jolla. Her prices are very decent. On the other hand if you want to splurge, Travis Parker is the man. Check out the reviews for both.

Edenista - I resurrected his thread for my particular request...I think Vanessa had her hair cut two months ago.

I noticed. Thanks. These are my recommendations, however.

Vanessa "Mellow Cinderella" D. says:
Edenista thanks for the reccs! I am always keeping my eyes open for hair salons.
Jason R., Jet Rhys is a particularly great salon. I have seen some of their male clientele and the final outcome is always trendy and methodically cut/styled. Most of the male clients I have seen have shorter hair so I couldn't say anything about their "longish" male styles.
If it helps any, I have a shorter female style which could (perhaps) equate to a males "longish" style. And it rocks! I asked my stylist (Dani) for a low maintanance and trendy look. And she knew exactly what I needed and gave me just that. I shower, towel dry, product style, n' go. She used a razor to cut my hair so every piece falls just where it needs to be.
After I came home I felt like my bangs and the sides were a little too long (that was a minor bummer) But, I went in 1 1/2 weeks later and she fixed it free of charge of course.
All of the stylist I have seen are very equipped and talented and they will definitely work w/ your needs.
Hope that helps?!

Right On!
Thanks Vanessa!
I'll be scheduling an appointment this week.

Masa-san (Mr. Masa) @ Terra Hair Salon in La Jolla. He is a japanese "master" class hair stylist. He is only here because he love surfing so much. Back when he was still in Tokyo, he had already been winning awards left and right.

I got a cut and highlights at JetRhys on Saturday. It was a great experience. Everyone on the staff is very welcoming and casual, yet very professional. They are all passionate about what they do. I happy with my new hairstyle (though it will take me some getting used to since its a big change for me). I would definitely go there again in the future!

I myself was in the hot seat at Jet Rhys last Friday. Solid recommendation, much appreciated.

Hi, I'm David, and I just got on YELP, anyhow, My wife and I go to Alhambra to get our hair cuts. We're into the Hong Kong Style type and we found this place in Alhambra called Hair and Hair Design.
It's on 130 E. Valley Blvd in Alhambra. (Open Tues-Sun 10-7)
It's pretty cool and the price isn't bad, 40$ for women 35$ for guys. Pretty solid cuts. You have to call in advance to book for our favorite stylist, Norman Tsu.
Anyhow the stylists is pretty good at giving recommendations or if you prefer a certain style, he will follow your orders.......

Hmm... one review, no friends, used the words 'premier salon' said review of diesel... Odd that it's the only review for the place, seeing as it's san diego's premier salon. I'm thinking kyle b. works for diesel.

Melissa "BlackJack" S. says:
So I want to get my hair done(cut) at a salon, but really unsure where to? I was thinking Studio on J but there aren't any reviews. Disconnected seems like a good place ot get it done at but I don't want a drastic change, just have my hair thinned out because it's HUGE. hahaha, so what's the price range for haircut and wash? soo yeah please reply to this asap. I want to get it done this coming weekend or next...hopefully. ciao.
I've done research on DK, Fresh an Urban, and JetRhys..so fill me in on Disconnected.

Meg "'You like jake?! Jake's my boy!'" M. says:
Hey Melissa,
The thing I love about Disconnected is that no matter what you want, the stylists totally LISTEN to you. They can totally do edgy or just a trim. I think the prices are comparable to any high end salon, which I have NO issues paying for the quality of service - and the scalp, neck massage that comes along with your shampoo... OMG! That on it's own is worth it!
I've been living in LA the past 2 years (finally moving back to SD tomorrow) and I've been driving down to SD JUST to have Neil cut my hair! He's THAT good!
Seriously, Neil has cut my hair 3 times in the last 6-7 months, and every single time, it's been exactly what I've asked for - and been the best cuts I've ever had. Even when I felt like it was growing out and needed to be cut again... it still looked amazing. I wouldn't recommend any other salon... because they're definitely the best. :-)

Denise Barrows on Fifth Ave. in Hillcrest is great.

Joan S. says:
Tammy at Salon Bordeaux in Normal Heights is another stylist to consider. She's cut my hair 3-4 times in the past year, and I've been happy every time. A couple of months ago I decided to totally change my style and she was great about recommending options and I got lots of compliments on my hair afterwards. I'd definitely recommend her- oh, and she charges $50 for a cut and style.

Aileen T. says:
you've gotta go to jet rhys and see christina. she's usually booked 6 weeks out though.. but you can see if there are any cancellations. she's wonderful! she's second to the top (jet rhys himself is the one above her).. so she can get pricey. but like i said in my review - she's worth every penny.
04/12/2007
Melissa "BlackJack" S. says:
How about Misty from Disconnected how's she?
I think I'll be setting an appointment with her.
I've only read about Neil, Sarah and Janelle.
I've seen other stylists myspace.
So yeah, Misty anyone?

Courtney "Happy Birthday" W. says:
Don't know if anyone suggested, but if you want a great haircut, book an appointment with the PHASE TWO students at The Paul Mitchel School downtown. I wrote a review about it. Hair colors can be much trickier there, but the haircuts are awesome, and as long as your hair is virgin right now, and a blank canvas, I'm sure it will come out great if they color it. But with me; well, my hair was messed up to start with, so the color jobs don't come out like I like them, but ehh, that's what I get!
04/13/2007
Courtney "Happy Birthday" W. says:
Haha, could be I had BLACK hair (dyed) and then asked them to bring me back to blonde. HAHAHA, yeah. I don't think even the most professional of professionals could do anything too great. SO; I think you'd like the experience there, for less than $20 for a haircut.

Lee D. says:
Um, I just booked an appointment online with Hashem at Jet Rhys. Is he good with Asian hair? I have really thick hair and the last "edgy" haircut I had was with an excellent Korean stylist in Dallas. Even though there was a language barrier there, I showed her a picture of my desired cut and she managed to get it done. When I moved to San Diego, I tried out the Electric Chair (stumbled upon it while walking around in Ocean Beach). The stylist gave me a layered 'do and my officemates liked it, but I wasn't too crazy about it cos it lacked that "edge". So anyway, since then I've been looking for an Asian stylist hoping they would understand my hair type and know what to do with it. I checked out reviews for FRESH, and they seem to have a nice, hip staff, but Hashem at Jet Rhys has all the buzz. So what do you think? Go or no? Cheerio...
05/17/2007
Vanessa "Mellow Cinderella" D. says:
I'd say give it a try. I have "Asian hair" too. It's really thick and requires special razor cutting, and layering to get that fresh and funky look. I had my cut with Dani a while back and she cut my hair perfectly. I've never had my hair cut with Hashem, but you won't know how it goes unless you try it out. Hope all goes well...

brooke f. says:
Lee- here's the deal with Hashem: just tell him your requirements and you'll be happy. I am sure to tell him what I don't want as far as style goes and that I am not willing to spend more than 5 minutes on my hair (wash, put in product & air dry). He will do something to please you... just let him be creative. I just went back in last week and he thanked all of us for the great referrals from yelp... His chair has been constantly warm!
05/17/2007
Ashlee J. says:
I'm going to agree with the Electric Chair. It's in OB, and was voted "Best Hair Salon" in San Diego.
