Will the E3 convention be as good without "booth babes"?

E3, or the "Electronic Entertainment Expo", will be at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting May 9th. It'll be host to a wide variety of video-game publishers promoting games, "next-gen" consoles and other electronics. Unlike past events, there will be no beautiful models/"booth babes" to help promote the wares.

Will E3 be just as good without the lovely ladies?

the ESA (show mgmt) actually had restrictions on using models at booths during last year's e3. this year they've decided to enforce the rule, which is why there won't be any booth babes.

(+) not having to navigate around the drooling geeks

(-) said drooling geeks will be playing the games that i want to play

personally, i could care less about the lack of (scantilly clad) boobage. but maybe its because i work in porn.

I will be attending E3 for the first time, I'll be sad without the "booth babes."

Also, can you all recommend any restaurants and bars/clubs that I should visit when I'm down there?

Thank you :)

To Andrew M: Thanks for pointing out the reasons why. I knew that the ESA was going to enforce restrictions, but I didn't know that they would do away with the models altogether.

To Tiffany T: DON'T eat at the convention center. Better to try the bacon-covered hot dogs the vendors sell outside.

Last time I went to E3 I left early on the last day and sat on the rooftop of the Standard and drank until the sun went down.  It was fantastic.  In fact, I'll probably do that again if anyone want to join!

I don't think this show is going to be very good. XBox360 Sales peaked in Demcember 2005, the PS3 has yet to ship. I think the focus will be on Mobile Games and Flas Games that exisit outside of te console market.

Aside from the preview of WarCraft's the Burning Legion there's really nothing to look forward to in this show.

If you have to go there for work, it's a lot different from going there for fun.  I've been going for the last 5 years for work.  It lost it's glory after the 2nd time around.  I've seen it all.  There is really nothing that new or innovative coming out.

I can't stand some of the fanboys and freaks/cosplayers that show up.  They are so annoying.  Some guy had the nerve to come up to me and give suggestions on improving my company's game.  What an idiot.

It sucked, Anthony. You always had to make appointments beforehand to get business done, but now... forget it.

Forget E3, they say that last year was its last hurrah. From what I read, this year's show is a shadow of its former self. Next year might even be the last show.

Instead, I look forward to E4 in October. That looks more fun. I posted it in the events section.

BTW, SIGGRAPH is more fun than E3. Its a lot more creative since the emphasis is how to advance the technology, not how to market and hype it.

I actually got an online registration form for E4 a couple of months ago.  I don't think I want to go though.  I don't want to have to deal with that traffic that I had to deal with back in the day when I had to go to all those E3s for work.  If E4 is open to the public, it's only going to be worse.  Plus, all those damn fanboys are going to be there.  I don' t totally mean to bash the boothbabes, but they're part of the problem too.  At least they're better to look at.

E4 is meant for the public. E3 was scaled down to limit attendance, but its dying off because each video game company is starting to host their own annual events, making E3 not worth their investment. The fanboys are the ones that make E3 and E4 and similar conferences and event. Without them, they would be dull and boring and there would be no point to hire boothbabes.

I dunno, some of those booth babes had really bad breath! Probably from not eating?

Yeah, I'm usually forced to attend E3. I go to the $40 dollar rip-off parking across the street (my company re-imburses me). The food in the convention center is horrible. You can try the bacon wrapped hot dogs outside but that's risky.

This year I'm looking for REAL gameplay (not cinematics) from:
- Killzone 2
- COD 4
- Halo

Well E3 is already taking place (or took place) this week. Its no longer in the Downtown Convention Center. It was held in a much smaller venue in Santa Monica. If you blinked, you already missed it.
