Anyone familiar with the local music scene? If so, give me some bands to look out for and/or some great venues for seeing bands.

Depends on the music you like. TT the Bears and Middle East in Central Sq are excellent. If you like local bands keep on eye on UpStairs at the Middle East. Paradise Rock Club on Comm Ave is great for mid-sized bands and their front room is good for locals acts.

Thanks! I assume these are all 21 and over venues, and not 18+? Not interested in hanging out with the teenagers.

These clubs (as most venues in Boston) are 18+ so just double check before going to see if it is 21+ show

I like the Paradice Rock Club.....don't forget your id or they wont let you in!!!! They usually have really good cover bands with some less known people opening up for them there. Nice and small to...you usually get to meet the artists or maybe get back stage:)

The Abbey Lounge is always 21+. It's out on the Somerville/Cambridge line, and generally has a marginally older crowd (late 20s-early 40s is about average). Shows are almost always less than $10, and they have live music every night. The bands tend to be more punk/garage stuff than at Great Scott. It's a different scene, and a smaller club, but usually pretty mobbed on weekend nights. My band is playing there at the end of the month.

Afshin has a cool list up there, but they're definitely part of one pretty specific scene. And he forgot to mention my buddies in PILES! (http://www.zebox.com/p...) They're playing tonight at the Middle East, as a matter of fact. The best thing about this town is that there's really something for everybody.

Harper's Ferry is GREAT. Check out their website, and get yourself on their mailing list. It's a cool room with a great vibe, and the music is always fantastic.
